THE Wiveliscombe Civic and Historical Society will host a talk exploring the history of the town on Saturday (October 19).

‘From Wilscombe to Wiveliscombe’ will take place at St Andrew’s Church and will feature talks from two local historians discussing the history and archaeology of the towns.

Bob Croft, head of built environment for the South West Heritage Trust, will open the event with a talk on local archaeology, followed by Sue Farrington, a local historian and author of Wiveliscombe, A History, who will discuss the history of the parish and its residents.

Between talks, there will be an opportunity to view and discuss old photographs of the town along with the artefacts, photos and memorabilia that attendees have brought.

Chair of the Wiveliscombe Civic and Historical Society, Pauline Homeshaw, said: "The Society hopes to welcome residents who have lived here for many years and also newcomers who would like to know a little more about the town where they live.

“Everyone is encouraged to bring old photographs, documents and other artefacts to share with others. There will be a delicious tea during the afternoon and all of this on your doorstep at St Andrew's Church, in the heart of the town"

The event will take place at St Andrew’s Church, Wiveliscombe, on Saturday, October 19 from 2pm – 5pm.

Doors open 1.30pm with refreshments throughout the afternoon.

Tickets cost £5 (or free for members) and can be bought on the door.
