RUMWELL Farm Shop is hosting a Mexican Tasting Evening this September featuring dishes inspired by the North American country while supporting Somerset and Westcountry producers.

The event on Thursday, September 12 will include ingredients sourced from as nearby as possible including beef tacos made from its Angus cattle hand-reared on its nearby farm.

Anne Mitchell, partner at the farm shop on the A38 between Taunton and Wellington, said: “Following the sellout success of our Mexican Tasting Evening last year, we’re hosting another similar event this September. Provenance, sustainability and keeping food miles down are whole heartedly part of our mission here. We make real food from real ingredients onsite and like to showcase other local and regional producers when we can.

“So, it’s time to don your best sombrero and corral your friends and family, and a vivir que son dos dias (seize the day).”

The menu includes a main of traditional beef chilli featuring Rumwell’s Angus minced beef, hand-reared on its nearby family-run farm, and served with Mexican red rice. There will also be side tasters of a mini chicken burrito, which is a flour tortilla, filled and rolled with beans, peppers, chicken and tomatoes.

Rumwell Farm Shop is an independent, family-run, award-winning business owned by the Mitchell family. It was originally a potato store, when David and Anne Mitchell began selling their potatoes and free-range eggs at the gate more than 25 years ago.

Doors open at 7pm. Tickets £19.95 per person including a main meal and side tasters. A licensed bar will be open.

Due to customer demand, the range of products soon increased, and the Farm Shop grew into the place it is today. David and Anne’s sons, James and Jack, are now also involved in the business, as well as their wives, Sophie and Donna.
