PEOPLE from across Wellington are invited to a summer picnic to celebrate the harvest at Longacre on Saturday, July 27.
Transition Town Wellington is hosting the event 11am-3pm for a summer picnic, and everyone is welcome to attend.
This will be held to celebrate the harvest and wildlife at Longacre, a community garden in Rockwell Green.
A spokesperson for Transition Town Wellington said: “This site was planted with 50 nut and fruit trees and 50 soft fruit bushes in the winter of 2019/2020, and the site has been managed by TTW ever since for the benefit of local residents and wildlife, with a wildflower meadow beneath the trees.
“The soft fruit is really starting to yield properly now and it’s all available for locals to pick for free. There will be free home made food on offer at the picnic, so you can try jams, jellies, chutneys on home made scones and bread, plus cakes and savoury delights, showcasing things you can make from the harvest at Longacre.”
As well food, there will be music, a tour of the site, a bioblitz using iNaturalist to count and identify the wildlife, and a range of children’s activities.
Longacre is located at the bottom of Dobree Park TA21 9RT, alongside Greenway Road TA21 9DE. Please consider the residents and try to either walk or cycle, parking is very limited in this residential area.
