TRANSITION Town Wellington (TTW) holds its summer picnic on Saturday (August 17) from 11 am to 3 pm in Fox’s Field forest garden, Tonedale.

This year’s focus is on pollinators, celebrating all that pollinators do for humans and giving advice on what can be done to help them.

Visitors will be provided with a free pollinator pack containing perennial wildflower seeds, a pack of 20 bulbs of mixed species to collect in September, and TTW’s ‘Gardening for Wildlife’ booklet, seeds and bulbs funded by Wessex Water’s Environment Fund.

TTW will also provide free foods made possible by pollinators with fruit which can be found in Fox’s Field, with jams, jellies, chutneys, on homemade scones and bread, freshly-picked herbal teas from the herb area, and cakes and savoury samples.

Visitors can hunt for bees, bugs, and other pollinators on a ‘bioblitz’ using iNaturalist, explaining how they can help increase habitats at home.

There will be a hand-tied bouquet workshop including advice on growing flowers for cutting, with music and flower craft activities for children - something for all ages.

A spokesperson said: “Everybody is welcome, do bring a rug to sit on, and we will cross our fingers for sunshine.”
