A LEADING animal sanctuary in Somerset is gearing up for its annual summer fayre which will be held on Saturday (July 20).

Ferne Animal Sanctuary, which is urgently raising funds to help it survive a financial crisis, promises a fun-filled day for the whole family.

The event will be held at its stunning 72-acre site in the Blackdown Hills, near Chard, will boast entertainment and interactive activities for all ages, in support of the sanctuary's mission to care for and protect animals in need.

Among the highlights of the event, Zoe Jasko, the sanctuary's ambassador, will be delivering a storytelling workshop and showcasing of her book, ‘Winnie’, from 1pm until 3pm. The book, inspired by Ferne Animal Sanctuary, details the charity’s history and the importance of its life-changing work.

The interactive storytelling workshop will include discussions about the sanctuary's founding during WWII and its ongoing significance, as well as an engaging short storytelling challenge for participants to take home and write their own short stories. The competition will run from the day of the event until September 1, with a prize for the winning story, which will also be published in Ferne’s magazine.

Local artist, Emma Keys, will be painting artwork live on Ferne’s viewing platform.

For children, the Creative Corner features artistic activities, as well as various games to take part in around the sanctuary, including hoopla, noughts and crosses, welly wanging and more.

Kevan Hodges, chief executive officer at Ferne Animal Sanctuary, said: “The annual event not only offers a day of fun and entertainment for the community but also raises funds to support our vital work in animal rescue and welfare.”

Entry to the Summer Fayre is £5 per adult and £1 per child. All proceeds will go towards supporting Ferne Animal Sanctuary's ongoing efforts to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home animals in need.
