THE Wiveliscombe Civic and Historical Society is hosting its next talk on ‘The Victorian Way of Death’ which will discuss mourning attire, funeral food and superstitions on Thursday, March 20.

Set to take place at St Andrew’s Church, Wiveliscombe, the talk will explore the Victorian obsession with a “good death” and the importance of burying your loved ones in style, with no expense spared.

The talk’s host, Charlotte Coles, will consider the origins of these practices – some of which remain today – and how they affected the lives of people in all levels of society.

Doors will open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start on March 20. Tickets cost £5 and can be bought on the door.
