EMERGENCY services rushed to Wellington town centre after a woman was hit by a van this morning (Wednesday, June 19).

Paramedics arrived in an ambulance and accompanying car before tending to a woman who was seen lying on the road just before midday.

Police officers arrived on the scene shortly after when they were seen appearing to take statements.

The woman involved in the collision is not thought to have sustained life-threatening injuries, but was conveyed to Musgrove Park Hospital, in Taunton.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said in a statement: "Police and the ambulance service attended a collision between a pedestrian and a van in Wellington High Street that happened at about 11.40am this morning, Wednesday, June 19.

"The pedestrian was assessed by paramedics at the scene. She was taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

"Officers left the scene at about 12.30pm."
