Somerset has been lashed by downpours today ahead of a weather warning for heavy rain coming into force.
The Met Office has issued a Yellow Warning for rain covering the South West and parts of Wales through Wednesday night and into Thursday.
The warning is set to start at 9pm today and expire on Thursday at 5pm. The Met Office cautions that affected areas could suffer power cuts, flooding, and difficult driving conditions.
Throughout the day there will be a risk of hail and thunder, with gales set to strengthen into the evening.
Minehead, which is within the warning area, is forecast to have constant rain from 5pm on Wednesday until 1pm the following day. After a brief sunny spell scattered showers are predicted to follow.
In Wellington, also covered by the weather warning, rainfall is expected to last from 11am on Wednesday to 2pm on Thursday. Wind speed is set to increase as the evening arrives, with gust speed to go from 34 mph at 6pm to 47mph by midnight.
A flood alert remains in place for the West Somerset Streams catchment, covering Exmoor to the coast.
In Environment Agency guidance updated on Monday lunchtime, water levels were said to be high at Beggearn Huish. The Agency warned of possible flooding at the Horner Water, Rivers Aller and Washford, and the Hawkcombe, Monksilver and Doniford Streams and tributaries.
