THE GLOBE Inn, Milverton, has shared a message of thanks for the increase in visitors over the last month.

Milverton Community Benefit Society (MCBS) posted online in early August to express the need for urgent action “to stop the imminent closure of the Globe.”

In their newsletter, MCBS said that the pub had “fallen short of the money needed to break even” and that it wasn’t “financially viable.”

The village pub was put up for sale at the end of 2023 by current owners Mark and Adele Tarry after an 18-year stint.

Milverton residents began the Milverton Community Benefit Society in an attempt to raise the £580,000 needed to purchase the pub.

Shares are being sold at £100 each which contribute to the buying of the village’s only pub with the hope of it becoming a community establishment.

MCBS have so far raised £180,000 and are awaiting a response from an application for a £300,000 grant from the government’s Levelling Up Fund.

Members of the Milverton Community Benefit Society said: “We’d like to extend a huge thank you for your good response to our recent newsletter. We encouraged you to make more use of The Globe, and it’s wonderful to see the increased footfall at the pub. Your continued support makes a real difference to Mark & Adele, who are dedicated to providing a warm, welcoming space for all.

“Every visit counts, and we truly appreciate your ongoing support.”
