THE countdown to Wellington’s Christmas festivities has begun with the announcement of the dates for the annual holiday events.
Wellington Town Council havs announced the dates of the annual Christmas Market and Lights Switch On event which will take place on Saturday, November 30.
The event will take place on High Street with market stalls and entertainment throughout the day.
Town Clerk, Dave Farrow, said: “We see this being a great opportunity to attract people to the town centre and be a way of bringing people together to celebrate the festive season.
“All town centre businesses are invited to embrace the event and join in.”
The highly anticipated Christmas Shop Window Competition is also set to take place.
Decorations must be completed by November 22 in time for the Lights Switch On, followed by judging from December 2-6.
The winner will receive the perpetual shield which will be presented by the Mayor before Christmas and they, along with two runners up, will also receive a certificate for display on their premises.
Windows will be judged on their visual impact, storytelling/theme, creativity, and effort.
Facilities manager Annette Kirk said: “Wellington Town Council is thrilled to again be running the Christmas Shop Window Competition.
“We had a great range of entries last year and we are excited to see what our amazing local businesses come up with for their 2024 window designs.”
High Street will be closed on Saturday, November 30 from 6am until 8pm.
