WELLINGTON Town Council is looking at putting together a plan which could help to increase the number of people who cycle or walk more for short journeys rather than rely on the car.
The Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan is a long-term project looking at developing a cycle and walking network within the local area.
But town clerk Dave Farrow, speaking at the council’s environment and open spaces committee on Tuesday, January 17, said: “It isn’t easy – it is a challenge. The roads and paths we’ve already got are not conducive to safe cycling routes.
“What we can do, however, is whatever developments come in the future we can ask to make sure that effective cycling and walking routes are written into them.”
But he added: “We aren’t going to see loads of fantastic cycling routes popping up in Wellington.”
