The Year 7 cohort led the return to Court Fields in Wellington this week, as the school welcomed its new students as part of a dedicated transition programme.
Following an enhanced induction day on Tuesday for invited students with Special Educational Needs, all Year 7 students joined their tutors and key pastoral staff for a day of introductions, making new friends, and getting to know the site and staff. The SEN co-ordinator and a team of staff have also been busy this week holding one-to-one tutorials with identified students in all years and parents, to reduce anxiety and help prepare for the new term.
Assistant headteacher (pastoral) Mrs Westwood said: “We were very excited to meet our new Year 7 cohort, it was so nice to return to school and welcome students on site. The three days have been a great success and we can’t wait to support all students throughout their five-year Court Fields journey.”
The programme for Year 7 included meeting staff and students, a tour of the school, what it is like to be a Court Fields student and experiencing different lessons before starting their timetable next week.
One year 7 student said: “I was really nervous and worried on Wednesday morning. I couldn’t picture what Court Fields was going to look like. But now I’m really happy and excited to start my learning.”
The introduction day was followed by two further transition days for Year 7 on Thursday and another today (Friday), giving them a taste of lessons, allowing them to meet the wider staff, with exclusive access to ensure they familiarise themselves with the site before the rest of the school return.
