HEMYOCK Holiday Club celebrated its 50th anniversary in style as volunteers entertained more than 70 children with fun, games, songs, crafts, face painting and stories throughout the five-day event.

The youngsters came from Hemyock but Dunkeswell, Culmstock, Wellington and even Tiverton to join in the fun.

The theme was Cops and Robbers and keeping everyone on the straight and narrow were Acting Chief Constable Steve Williams (Hemyock Baptist Church) and PC Jonathan Hillman (Rosemary Lane Chapel).

The week ended with the presentation of a commemorative certificate to Maureen Aylwin by local MP Neil Parish to thank her for her service to the holiday club throughout all but two of the annual events since 1969.

A spokesperson for the club added: “A big thank-you goes to all of our volunteer helpers and, of course, to Mr Parish for helping the holiday club police with their enquiries.”
