THE A38 near Wellington was closed at Piccadilly Straight on Thursday (August 8) following a car crash.
Both Wellington fire crews were despatched to the incident, which happened at about 11.30 am.
Police were in attendance and queues of traffic were rapidly building in both directions with Chelston roundabout gridlocked and congestion on the road through West Buckland as drivers tried to avoid the blockage.
An AA spokesperson said the collision had occurred on the eastbound carriageway heading toward Taunton between Chelston roundabout and the Hockholler Road junction.
No information was available on whether anybody had been hurt in the incident.
The road was fully-reopened after a few hours, although traffic took some time to clear.
