CHAIRS and signs were thrown at an Italian restaurant in Taunton following an altercation which involved up to 30 people.

Police are investigating the incident in which a man suffered fractured ribs, a broken hand and are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A window of the Little Italy restaurant, in the courtyard of the Orchard Centre, was also broken after the incident at around 7.20pm on Saturday, October 19.

Avon and Somerset Police said in a statement: “A group of 20 to 30 people were involved in an altercation with the man in the courtyard of the Orchard Centre. The victim, aged in his 60s, was taken to hospital and has since returned home.

“Following the altercation, members of the group have then thrown chairs and signs at the Little Italy restaurant, breaking a window.

“Extra patrols have been carried out since the incident and officers have been conducting CCTV enquiries in the area.”

Police are now appealing for any witnesses to the incident, those with footage or other information which could assist the investigation to call 101 quoting reference number 5224276159.
