We are delighted to announce the return of Carols Under the Stars at Wellington Monument tomorrow night (December 3) from 6.30-8pm.

The event will be shorter and a little more low-key than previous years, as we continue to be mindful of the risk of Covid-19. Nevertheless, it will be a great opportunity to get together and enjoy the countryside - fingers crossed - star-lit skies and the Wellington Monument lit up for the occasion.

The singing starts at 7pm led by the Blackdown Community Choir. We advise that you arrive about 15 minutes earlier to allow time to walk up the avenue to Wellington Monument. Parking at the Monument is limited, so please car share where possible. Unfortunately, we’re not able to run the minibus this year - but we do plan to reinstate it for next year’s event.

Wellington Ladies Probus Club recently closed and Sue Greenhough, the secretary, and the remaining members have given the last of its funds to two local charities, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and Wellington Monument.

Monument volunteer John Greenshields accepted the donation of £140 with thanks. He said: “All the donations given go directly to the Monument itself and will be used to put the finishing touches to the Monument.”

The National Trust is looking for volunteers to help with litter picking and the 2022 opening of the Monument tours – contact John at [email protected]
