A buddleia bush has returned to blight a town centre property just six weeks after being removed.
The stubborn bush plumed from a window above a former bakery over the summer, with a Town Cllr branding the weeds an 'eyesore' and a mark on Wellington's 'conservation area.'
Residents took to social media to voice their despair at the state of the building, with one resident describing at as: "Not dissimilar to what I have witnessed in Communist countries."
The outpour prompted swift action - with the bothersome bush culled just days after the Wellington Weekly reported on local concerns.
But just six weeks after being cut back the bush has returned, and appears as large as it was before being cut back.
The building was previously the premises of Kaffee Klatsch, a bakery which opened in March 2022 before closing just a few weeks later without explanation or notice. The property has remained vacant ever since.
The business is owned by American husband and wife, Ryan and Roseanne Bolesky, who between them are directors of several bakery companies, some of which are dissolved.
It is believed the building's owners were responsible for the summer snipping - after the town council confirmed neither they nor Somerset Council had remove the buddleia.
Councillor Zoe Barr has now said that it is time to get to the root of the problem. She said: "It seems to be we take two steps forward and then one backwards at the moment.
"We are supposed to have a conservation area in force in the town centre. But every time an issue crops up it appears to take quite a long time before it is sorted. Wellington is a great town in which to live and work and we have lots of independent retailers in our town centre which other towns are quite envious of.
"So we really need to get on top of anything that blights the look of the town centre as quickly as we can."
