A tractor with an alleged unsecured trailer narrowly missed a pedestrian as it barrelled down Milverton Road, where it was said to have collided with a number of vehicles.

Witnesses have reported that on Wednesday night (April 26), just after 9 pm, the tractor's unsecured trailer door swung open, damaging parked vehicles and almost hitting a teenager on the pavement.

Laura Brooks, who lives on Milverton Road, said the tractor smashed into her husband's van, and narrowly missed her son who was returning from a shop.

She said: "My son came in and said 'Iv'e just nearly died'. He told me a tractor with a large trailer on the back came down Milverton Road towards town, and as it went round the corner the gate swung around past his head. The trailer gate missed him, but hit my husband's work van that was parked there and multiple vehicles as it went on its way.

"Initially it just looked like it had broken the lights but on closer inspection it has creased the side panel, it's going to be a big repair bill. I saw another vehicle with its wing mirror smashed off, that had clearly happened at the same time. Another had suffered damage but I couldn't say for certain if it had been sustained in the same event.

"I posted about it on Facebook to see who was responsible. I fully accept he's driving a very large tractor and probably didn't hear it or feel a thing but my upset is that at some point he would have seen that gate was not secure and must have known he would have potentially caused damage.

"It is one of those incidents that after it happens you think 'that could have been a lot more serious'. Iv'e dealt with these kind of jobs in my line of work."

In an appeal to identify the driver, Laura posted the incident to a Facebook group for Wellington residents, saying: "A large tractor and trailer has just damaged at least three vehicles on Milverton Road and nearly took my son's head off!"

The post prompted residents to come forward, saying their vehicles had also suffered damage in the incident, with some offering to check their CCTV.

The identity of the tractor driver is not known.

Avon and Somerset Police was contacted but a spokesman said he could only comment if there was a road closure or a serious injury.
