HIGH Street bakery A House of Cake has won Wellington’s 2023 Christmas shop window competition.
This is the first year that Wellington Town Council has organised the competition, which was judged by Mayor Cllr Marcus Barr, Deputy Mayor Cllr Catherine Govier, and two volunteers from Wellington Majorettes.
Over the past couple of weeks, the windows of A House of Cake have caught the attention of many Wellington residents.
Before reaching the windows, customers are greeted by a large red inflatable arch, with a snowman on the left-hand base and a Father Christmas on the right.
In the windows behind, a gingerbread man, a festive baker, and another Christmas arch can be seen along with large baubles, stars, and elves.
House of Cake will be presented with an engraved shield, which it will hold until next year.
Runners up, HT Perry & Son & Granddaughter and Quick Vapes 4 U will receive certificates to display in their shops.
Local people have commented on how impressive and festive the displays were this year and have taken to Facebook to congratulate House of Cake for their ‘well-deserved’ win.
Lesley Retallack opened A House of Cake last May after the closure of a vegan café, which left the premises empty for almost a year.
Ms Retallack runs the shop as a family business with her mother, son, and daughter-in-law.
