A SHOCKING Halloween display is set to haunt Rockwell Green for the fifth year running.

The devilish diorama is the work of Samantha Johnson, 28, who regularly adorns her Barrington Way home with occult ornaments for Halloween night.

The display has proved to be a popular attraction for local families and those further afield - with some travelling from as far as Taunton to see the spooky spectacle.

Samantha explained that growing up in Canada, Halloween was a major event there, and she wanted to spread the frightful feeling to the UK. She said: "I’m originally from Canada, my mum and dad are originally from there and Halloween is such a big thing there.

"When I was younger, when trick or treating happened, you didn't tend to do much in the UK. So it started about four or five years ago when we had a little bit of a display out in the front garden."

Samantha's display now extends from the front and into the back garden, where a horrible host of scary skeletons, bestial bats, shocking spiders and even an inflatable grim reaper await brave trick or treaters.

Each year the event grows in popularity. Around one hundred goody bags are prepared by Samantha each Halloween, and there are typically none remaining by the night's end. She explained:

"For the first couple of years it was quiet but it has blown up a bit now. Everyone loves it, especially our neighbours with kids. Last year we went through just over 100 goody bags."

It is hoped that the spooky show could soon help raise money for charity. Samantha said: "We would love to do a charity event when it gets even busier.

"I have been toying with the idea of supporting Cancer Research or a children’s charity – we have discussed it in the family, we would love to have an honesty box, perhaps next year we will start doing that."

Another of Samantha's ambitions is to expand the display, turning Barrington Way into an eery estate. She said: "I’d love to decorate the whole estate, that would be a goal. Some people won’t be into it but that’s fine. If I have to spend £10,000 on decorations I’ll do it."

The display will be on this Halloween night (Tuesday, October 31) to which Samantha invited families for a spook-tacular evening: "I hope people come along and have a great time, obviously there’s sweets so if you want free food come along to my house."
