COURT Fields School is celebrating a fantastic start to the academic year.

The Mantle Street school welcomed a new cohort of eager students this September, embarking on their secondary school journey.

The transition from primary to secondary education can be a big step, but a representative of the school has said: “The Year 7 students are already settling in, excited to explore new subjects and make lifelong friendships.”

Member of the school leadership team, Sarah Westwood, said: “The new students had two days in July and additional visits to get them ready for this next step. We value this transition to support students in tackling this transition head on.”

The students are enjoying the opportunity to explore subjects such as technology, drama, and world views, alongside the core curriculum of maths, English, and science.

One student said: "I’ve never done anything like drama or technology before, and it's so much fun. It’s great learning new things and working with my classmates."

Beyond the classroom, students recently took part in a three-day residential trip to the Ultimate Adventure Centre, taking part in an array of thrilling activities, including surfing, coasteering, high ropes, paddle-boarding, and team-building challenges.

The group also faced the ultimate assault course which they successfully tackled as a team.

Flint, the school's therapy dog, also joined in the fun.

A student said: "Flint was amazing. He made everyone feel calm, especially when we were nervous about the harder activities.”

Throughout the trip, the students developed new skills, from learning to paddle-boarding to overcoming their fears on the high ropes. School representatives said they felt the greatest achievement of the trip the group was the strong sense of community that blossomed during the students’ time away.

A representative concluded: “It’s clear that the beginning of the school year at Court Fields has been an unforgettable experience.

“With new subjects, new skills, and new friendships, the Year 7 students are off to a fantastic start.”
