A MOPED caught fire near Wellington’s Chelston Roundabout this afternoon causing delays on the A38.

Emergency services were called to the blaze at the A38 West Buckland Road roundabout junction at 3.11pm (Thursday, January 16).

Two engines were dispatched from Wellington Fire Station and found the bike well alight when they arrived.

The fire was quickly extinguished and crews utilised drain covers to prevent any leaking fuel from entering the watercourse.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Services said: “The moped was completely destroyed, and National Highways have been alerted to attend due to some fire damage caused to the road.”

The Wellington Weekly News understands that the cause of the fire was accidental.
