THE Oxfam shop in South Street, Wellington, which celebrated its 50th birthday recently, is seeking more volunteers.

Simon Parkinson, who has been manager for ten weeks, said the shop has just over a dozen staff.

The shop is open Monday to Saturday, 9am-5pm and runs morning and afternoon shifts, most staff working one shift or the other, or full days, but the commitment is entirely up to the individual.

Simon said: “It’s a relaxed family atmosphere here. People bring their own skill set and we tend to match it up with something in the store they would enjoy doing – or do something completely different if they like.”

The shop sells a wide range of items including clothing, media items, children’s toys and books, along with products sourced by Oxfam such as fair trade and ethical goods.

It also sells items online, including vintage clothing – it recently had a Vivienne Westwood coat for sale – and all sorts of items from the 1960s and 1970s. Simon added: “Wellington as a community is wonderful and very generous. We are inundated with donations of all sorts.”

He said the store has a contemporary feel, like many charity shops nowadays, with the look of commercial stores on the High Street.
