Members of Wellington WI have been busy knitting poppies for this year’s Remembrance displays in the town.
Some 3,000 poppies have been knitted and crocheted since June with the help of local people.
Bridget Hodges, speaking for the WI, said: “We are extremely grateful to everyone who has assisted us in making the poppies for this year’s displays in Wellington.
“We are also grateful to Webbers Property Services and Trull village hall for their generous donations, which allowed us to buy much-needed wool.
“Once again this year displays are planned for the Remembrance Garden, and around the war memorial in the park, in Monmouth Gardens in North Street and on the railings around the town centre crossroads, and at Lancer Court.”
Members of the WI were joined by the Royal British Legion Wellington branch at the last poppy pop-up session at the Repair Cafe in Wellington Baptist Church.
Branch chairman Bob Trickey, carrying the standard, treasurer Joe Finn and secretary Peter Critchard wanted to show their support for the work the ladies were doing in support of Remembrance.
Bob said: “We are looking forward to seeing these wonderful displays enhancing our town centre for Remembrance Time.”
