WELLINGTON will be looking to collect another trophy when they play Burnham on Sea in the final of the Somerset Under 16 Shield at Middlezoy on Sunday, May 5, with a 3p.m. kick-off.

However, Wellington’s hopes of completing a double in Division One of the Under 16 section in the Taunton & District Youth League were dashed when they lost 1-0 to Staplegrove Saints in the final of the KO Cup on Taunton Town's ground on Sunday.

The Grove scored in the first half and despite plenty of attacking moves, particularly in the second half, Wellington could not get back on level terms. Groves’ keeper was also in tremendous form and pulled off some fine saves.

“It was one of those days when we weren’t going to score,” said Wellington’s joint manager Wayne Oaten. “You have those days and there’s nothing you can do about it."

Wellington became champions of the division a few days earlier after gaining a 2-2 away draw with Elmore at Tiverton. Nelson Taylor netted both of Wellington's goals.

Wellington moved onto 20 points at the top and cannot now be caught.

Losing to Staplegrove will only boost their determination to play well in the cup against Burnham.
