WELLINGTON 2nd X1 gained an exciting 13-run victory over Taunton Deane 3rd XI in the third division of the Somerset Cricket League at the Playing Field on Saturday.

Having chosen to bat first, Wellington appeared to be heading for a 200-run plus score after scoring 160 for the loss of only four wickets. But they lost their last six batters for the addition of only 14 runs. 

Nathan Yarde top scored with 49, while Ollie Hunt hit 37. The only other batters to reach double figures were openers James Brackenbury, who scored 17, and Paul Short, 20, in a score of 174.

Kasum Madhujanka was the Deane's most successful bowler, taking 4-28 in his eight overs while Graham Johnson took 3-21. There was one wicket apiece for Cole Norman, Matthew Hughes and Billy Sully.

The Deane never looked comfortable when batting although their last pairing of Hughes (19) and Cole Norman (23 not out) played well.. 

The Deane's first wicket went down at 14 and at one stage the visitors were 78-8 but Mark Norman (38) and Hughes put on 43 runs for the ninth wicket.

Veteran Rob Moysey took 3-14 in his eight overs, while Tom Hopkins finished with figures of 3-23 and Alex Derbridge 2-38 .
