THOUSANDS of people turned out to support the return of Wellington Illuminated Carnival on Saturday (September 28).
Ahead of the start of the illuminated procession, a two-minute silence was held in tribute to ‘Mrs Carnival’ Josephine Chave, a community stalwart who died earlier this year.
Fireworks marked the start and end of the silence at at 7pm and 7.02pm, before the event got underway from Rockwell Green.
Mrs Chave had been chair of the carnival committee for around 30 years but was involved in the event for much longer than that.
A whole host of events were held across the town during carnival weekend, with the town’s motors show taking place for a second year running.
Around 50 vehicles were on display in Wellington’s Conservative Club park park throughout the day.
