POLICE are investigating a shocking ‘Grand Theft Auto’-style assault in which an enraged road user allegedly attempted to pull a driver out of his car over a parking dispute.

The alleged incident took place in broad daylight on the morning of Saturday, April 20, in the High Street, after a man became enraged at the way cars had been parked outside of the old Post Office.

An alleged victim said he had been out shopping when he returned to his car and was set upon. The assailant is alleged to have attempted to drag him from the vehicle and took the keys from the ignition and threw them across the road.

He said: “He was pulling the door open and trying to drag me out, I don’t know if he was on drugs or what but he was angry, screaming and shouting.

“After I left he started chasing another car who had been parked there, it’s getting frightening in Wellington now.”

Worn road markings indicate vehicles parked at the junction with White Hart Lane should be parallel to the pavement. But the alleged attacker was said to launched his assault saying they should be in a herringbone formation.

A police spokesperson said in a statement: “We were called to a report that a man had been assaulted in High Street, Wellington.

“No injuries were reported and no arrests have been made. Neighbourhood officers have been made aware.
